Where We Began
Dampfixer Ltd was formed in 2019, building on the extensive expertise and industry insights of its founder, Steve. After spending 35 years in the field of building and surveying, Steve discovered a recurring issue in the housing sector: dampness and condensation were often the result of poor workmanship.
Traditional methods, particularly the use of chemicals for damage repairs, consistently proved ineffective. Steve observed a troubling pattern while overseeing numerous storm and flood restoration projects and facilitating the drying process. The primary cause of dampness in plaster was bridging, and the available market solutions failed to address this issue adequately.
Driven by the need to find a permanent solution to damp bridging, Steve identified a niche that had been overlooked by existing treatment companies. These companies often relied on inconclusive tests and ineffective products, which did not incorporate plaster in their experiments, leading to unreliable results. Recognising the necessity for a more effective approach, Steve founded Dampfixer to offer solutions that get to the root of damp.
Steve’s Story
Steve, the founder of Dampfixer, boasts an impressive career that spans multiple decades and disciplines within the building and construction industry. With a solid tradesman’s background, Steve began his journey with City and Guilds qualifications in bricklaying and plumbing. His passion for the industry led him to further his education, achieving ONC and HNC in Building Studies over four years.
Steve’s professional experience expanded significantly when he trained and qualified as an insurance surveyor, specialising in roof storm and flood inspections. Throughout his career, Steve conducted over 6,500 surveys for insurance companies and an additional 4,000 as a freelance building consultant focusing on damp and disrepair issues.
His expertise in this field is unparalleled, as he has undertaken specialised training in areas such as flooring policy perils, delegate authority, and asbestos testing.
One of Steve’s notable achievements includes the completion of 50 case study surveys that granted him the delegated authority to conduct inspections, oversee contractors, and authorise settlements for both customers and contractors. This authority has resulted in the management and settlement of claims worth millions of pounds. His work has taken him around the globe, where he has observed the effects of damp weather and building decay in various climates and tested numerous solutions.
Currently, Steve leverages his extensive experience and deep knowledge of the building industry to consult on legal matters related to buildings. This role allows him to apply his in-depth understanding to provide valuable insights and solutions, ensuring that clients receive the most accurate and effective advice.
